What Should You Reflect On In 2022?

Table of Contents

What should you reflect on as the year draws to a close? It’s easiest to reflect on things that we can clearly measure, like money. How is our balance sheet now versus on January 1st? We can all do this for our business, and for our personal finances as well. But is there more that we can measure in our lives than just money?

Dave Inglis of Threshold Leadership thinks so (https://www.daveinglis.ca/). Dave spends his time helping business leaders live better lives. He has a simple but thought-provoking framework he calls the Triple Bottom Line that puts personal well being into the three buckets of Health, Wealth, and Relationships. This simple framework can help us get our priorities straight and put in motion what is needed to live an intentional life.

Although not as obviously measurable as money flow, we intuitively know when we are building or drawing down our health and relationships. Conscious awareness and documentation of our goals and plans for all three buckets makes it even easier to understand how we are doing in each category.

It is interesting to note that self-care, like we discussed in last week’s article (https://sage-summit.com/why-should-leaders-put-on-their-holiday-oxygen-mask-first/), is a key element of both Health (includes physical, mental & spiritual), and Relationships (your relationship with yourself comes first). Predictably, investing in yourself is critical to your well-being.

Conscious management of investment and withdrawal of all three of the buckets leads to a more balanced, enjoyable, and meaningful life than just managing the money. So as the year winds down take some time to consider a more holistic view of your goals and plans for 2023.
